Two Leading Organizations Awarded Honor for Exemplary Practice in Lean Six Sigma

LAS VEGAS, NV (April 2018) – Recipients of the Lean and Six Sigma Excellence Awards were just announced by the American Quality Institute in Las Vegas, NV. The award ceremony took place at their annual conference, the Lean and Six Sigma World Conference hosted at the Venetian Hotel.

The conference draws continuous improvement practitioners and experts together from around the globe to promote thoughtful leadership in continuous improvement, sustainable innovation, and an informative exchange of ideas across industries.

“The organizations that we consider for recognition have undertaken impressive and far-reaching efforts and show great dedication to improving and innovating their professional environments,” commented awards chair, Kimberly Watson-Hemphill.

This year’s judges have chosen to honor the following organizations:

• Lean Six Sigma Project of the Year: USG Corporation
• Lean Six Sigma Deployment of the Year: Arrow Electronics

Lean Six Sigma Project of the Year: USG Corporation

Industry-leading manufacturer of building materials and innovative solutions, USG Corporation sought to optimize the production costs of a highly successful new product: the first gypsum panel in the lightweight category weighing up to 30% less than traditional panels. Project design centered on maintaining high quality production, seeking and incorporating extensive customer insight, and emphasizing internal communications. Selected results of the project included a 31% cycle time reduction from 7 months to 4.8 and the realization of significant savings that surpassed their goal.

Lean Six Sigma Deployment of the Year: Arrow Electronics

Ranked as 118 on the Fortune 500, global technology-solution provider Arrow Electronics has trained over 300 people to be Green Belts from around the world in just over two years. Arrow is a previous two-time Innovation of the Year award winner for their gamification approach, known as the Lean Six Sigma Olympics, and also for their success with Lean Six Sigma Drones.

Lean Six Sigma World Conference Highlights

Other highlights of the event included keynote speaker Capt. Sully Sullenberger, who gained worldwide attention for "the Miracle on the Hudson" where he and his crew safely guided US Airways Flight 1549 to an emergency water landing on the Hudson River.

Planning is currently underway for the 2019 event, and details will be shared as they become available at www.leanandsixsigma.com.
