ABSTRACT

Kaizen Flow: A Roadmap for Your Event

Have you ever wondered how an event should flow? Are you recently trained and/or have very few, if any, improvement events under your belt? After 14 years of process improvement experience, and 70+ improvement events I've facilitated or coached, I've found a very good rhythm and order of operations for an event to unfold. Not only a rhythm but also tips and techniques I’ve learned along the way to avoid pitfalls and traps that can get a facilitator stuck. Traps, I’ve discovered the hard way myself. I'll quickly summarize what happens before and after the event, so we understand what happens during and outside of an improvement initiative. I’ll then focus much of the presentation on what happens from Day 1 to Day 3-5. I'll include facilitation techniques that'll allow you to not just know what tool to do next, but methods to have them be completed more effectively. I’ll even tell you stories of how these techniques had to come about after learning the hard way through my own trip-ups. The event week topics we’ll cover are Champion Kick-off, SIPOC, Current State Map, Waste Analysis, Root Cause Analysis, Ideal State, Brainstorming Ideas, Developing Countermeasures, Building the Future State, Action Plans, Pre-Mortems and Keys to Success, and the Champion Out Brief. By the end of the presentation, you’ll have both an outline, and facilitation techniques you can apply for your next improvement event. You’ll find these orders of operations work well for any industry and they’ve been used for virtual events as well.
