Endless Journey – From Lean to Leaner

Ming Tian, Director, Design and Property Development, Calgary Board of Education, Calgary, AB, Canada

Lean, Culture, Engagement

Calgary Board of Education started its Lean journey in June 2016. Starting from zero without any external help can be challenging, however, Calgary Board of Education chose to build the lean culture as the foundation to start the lean journey. This presentation aims to share a lot of building lean culture activities; hence enable the attendees to see how building lean culture benefits the lean journey as a whole. With a lean culture being built, employees are more engaged and savings are driven by front-line employees spontaneously. A creative way of breaking down continuous improvement to small steps of achievement using project management procedures will also be shared with the conference attendees. In 2 years’ lean journey, quite a lot of projects have started, executed and completed. Successful stories along with handy Lean tools in all projects will be presented to showcase an engaging journey moving from lean to leaner. Participants are expected to take away real, easy and replicable lean practices which be soon be applied to their own operational challenges.

Conference Chair's Message

Joel Smith

Continuous Improvement is not just something a Lean Six Sigma (LSS) practitioner leads their organization in practicing, but is also a core competency of their professional makeup. That is why more and more innovative and leading companies are looking for leaders that use the LSS way of thinking in everything they do within their organization.

In this era of data science and machine learning, the ability to connect the dots for end to end solutions across the boundaries of people, process and systems is the key to success. This year’s conference is focused on making sure we are “continuing” our journey as practitioners. Whatever your level of experience, you will learn new concepts, new perspectives and network with the best in the industry.
