David is a certified Planning and Scheduling Professional, certified Project Management Professional (PMP ®), Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt, writer and podcast guest with more than 20 years of experience in human resources, healthcare, manufacturing, quality and process improvement. David is recognized by the American Society for Quality (ASQ) as a Subject Matter Expert and collaborates with the ASQ Quality Management Division Technical Community as the Deputy Publications Editor. Success comes from challenging the current state and asking tough questions. He coaches and develops others while practicing servant leadership; striving to establish collaborative and trustful relationships with individuals at all levels. He has experience leading large and complex cross functional project teams, mentoring leaders and front-line team members, and facilitating for success. A principle that he believes to be fundamental is learning to take every challenge as either a gateway to success or an opportunity to learn.

ABSTRACT

Building an Improvement Culture and Deploying Lean Six Sigma in HR

Is Human Resources, as an aspect of business, able to deliver Lean Six Sigma projects of significant benefit to the organization? A typical view of Human Resources is that of an organization focused on the learning and growth perspective, essentially a cost center with an internal focus. When reviewing Human Resources as a part of an organization, it becomes clear that several business processes have an impact on the effectiveness of employee efforts in delivering services or products to customers. This presentation will discuss the application of Lean Six Sigma in the Human Resources environment. A framework to deploy continuous improvement (CI), establish an internal CI Team structure, and build a strategy for CI cultural transformation will be presented. Key takeaways for the participant: how CI workshops function as a force multiplier of CI, introduction to communication strategy, and the foundation for an internal CI consulting team.
